Mauna Loa is the world's largest volcano located in the south-central part of Hawaii. It is 13,677 feet above sea level and it's dome is 75 miles and 64 miles wide. Mauna Loa in English means "Long Mountain" This is a shield volcano and its summit has a caldera, a large depression shaped like a bowl which is nearly 6 square miles and a depth of 600 feet. This large volcano is often sn0wcapped in winter and has erupted 3 dozen times since its first recorded eruption which happened in 1843. We hope you enjoy learning about Mauna Loa as much as we did!
